Self-Help Credit Union

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Starting January 31st, 2017 the West Oakland and Pittsburg branch of Self-Help Federal Credit Union will provide free tax preparation services! Since managing our first Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in 2003, we have prepared over 6,000 tax returns, generating approximately $7 million in refunds for community residents. This year, our VITA program will offer free tax preparation services for people who earned less than $54,000 in 2016. Tax assistance is also available for prior tax years; please call for availability. VITA tax preparers' are IRS-certified volunteers and will help you receive all of the credits for which you are eligible. You do not have to be a Credit Union member to receive assistance. You deserve your full refund. Don’t pay someone else to prepare your taxes when your credit union can do it for free.

If you are interested in volunteering as a tax preparer, greeter or translator, click here. Training will be provided.
