In 2024, Self-Help teamed up with two other experienced non-profit organizations to create Climate United, a collaboration focused on expanding the benefits of the clean energy transition—like cleaner air and lower energy bills—to all, with a focus on low-income communities and households of modest means.

Through a competitive grant process, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded Climate United a $6.97 billion award through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. Self-Help Climate Capital was allocated $2.25 billion of the award to stand up a nationwide program in partnership with other lenders to make it easier for families to afford solar panels, electric vehicles, and energy efficient homes and upgrades.

Funding from the EPA’s grant program is currently frozen pending litigation. Self-Help continues our work to expand access to clean energy, and we stand ready to deploy this source of capital should it become available.
